Weather alert: Afternoon storms likely in Bradenton on Wednesday

MANATEE -- Late afternoon and evening thunderstorms are likely for Bradenton on Wednesday according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters say there is a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 5 p.m. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch are expected -- except higher amounts are possible in thunderstorms, according to the Weather Service.

The strongest storms may produce heavy rain, gusty winds and frequent lightning.

Otherwise, skies will be mostly sunny, with a high near 89 and easterly winds of 5 to 7 mph becoming westerly in the afternoon.

Wednesday night, showers and storms will be likely -- the chance of rain stays 60 percent -- until about 11 p.m., according to the Weather Service. The expected low is around 74.
