July 9, 2013

SARASOTA -- A 49-year-old man has been charged with robbery after he stole a bicycle from two children at the skate park at Payne Park, according to the Sarasota Police Department.

Luther Douglas faces a charge of robbery by sudden snatching.

About 11 p.m. July 4, officers responded to a report of a robbery at the skate park. One victim said Douglas threatened him while he was sitting on a bike, police said.

"Douglas’ ex-wife was at the skate park and told officers she witnessed the robbery and then became uncooperative and started to yell threats at other juveniles. Officers told her to leave, which she did, after screaming at them," the report states.

Douglas was arrested after officers found him at Pompano Road and Fruitville Road riding the victim’s bike.
