Evolucia moves world HQ to Lakewood Ranch, hires new director, plans 100 more jobs

LAKEWOOD RANCH -- Evolucia, the designer and global marketer of high-performance LED lighting systems, is continuing to expand with plans to move its world headquarters into a 61,000-square-foot facility where Gemisis used to reside at 7040 Professional Parkway E.

The company, which now employs about 30, plans to add about 100 employees over the next several years at its new headquarters, a spokesman said Monday.

The company's current staff should be moved by the end of August, said Jon DiGesu, director of communications.

"The move is well underway," DiGesu told the Bradenton Herald. "We've already begun moving the warehousing and product has been delivered. And we are growing at a reasonable pace, and will be adding about 100 jobs."

The company announced Monday that it has hired a new global director of quality. Scott Nickerson joins Evolucia from Sparton Electronics/Creonix LLC, a Bradenton company that is going through a series of layoffs.

The new facility will also include a Center of Excellence for the research, development and manufacture of its high-efficiency outdoor and industrial lighting controls and fixtures.

The facility will consolidate Evolucia's LED (light emitting diodes) research, development and testing operations into one facility, representatives have said. Evolucia plans to maintain its offshore international mass-production capabilities through a partnership with Leader Electronics.

"We are steering our company towards success by imagining the future of LED lighting and creating that future here in the U.S.," stated Chief Executive Officer Mel Interiano, who took the reins in April 2012.

"Our new corporate headquarters provide us with not

only the facilities required for growth, but with both the creative environment and the tools necessary to maintain our lead in the development of next generation lighting solutions. Our new world headquarters stand as a concrete symbol of the steps we have taken in the complete strategic refocusing of our company."

Nickerson brings 39 years of experience in the electronics industry. At Evolucia, he will be responsible for creating, implementing and maintaining Evolucia's world class quality systems, certifications and document control, said Interiano, to whom Nickerson will report.

"With nearly 40 years of experience in the electronics and high tech industries, Scott comes with the background and discipline needed to shape Evolucia's global manufacturing and quality control strategies-helping us build towards LEAN manufacturing and Six Sigma certification," Interiano said. "Our rapidly expanding product portfolio and our growing global manufacturing network demand that we have the systems and controls in place to exceed our customers' expectations."

Most recently, Nickerson was director of quality and operations at Sparton Electronics/Creonix.

"Evolucia is a rapidly growing pure-play LED lighting company that is taking the right steps in product development, marketing and manufacturing," Nickerson stated. "The company's commitment to quality control and efficient processes is impressive. I am happy to be part of the Evolucia team."
