Manatee pedestrian injured by hit-and-run driver

MANATEE -- A pedestrian sustained minor injures Saturday morning when he was hit by a vehicle while trying to cross 15th Street East, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to a news release, the pedestrian was walking eastbound on the north side of 57th Avenue East, attempting to cross 15th Street East.

A black SUV entered the intersection in the northbound right lane of 15th Street East, and, failing to see the pedestrian, hit the 39-year-old man's right foot, the FHP said.

The SUV fled the scene before police arrived. The pedestrian was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, the news release said.
