July 5, 2013

SARASOTA -- A boat was burglarized while it was on a lift at the end of a dock on John Ringling Parkway, Sarasota police reported.

Sometime after 11 p.m. Wednesday, the boat owner said someone got on his Boston Whaler at 1461 John Ringling Parkway (near intersection of John Ringling Parkway and Ken Thompson Parkway) and removed two Garmin Chart Plotter GPS units, each worth $7,000 each, acording to the report.

The boat was out of the water at the time, the owner told police.

Police had no suspects as of Friday morning.

Officials also issued a reminder to secure valuables over the holiday weekend.

"This unfortunate criminal act should be a reminder that there are individuals who will take any opportunity to victimize us in our community not matter the time of day, day of the week, or Holiday. Securing your valuables, storing items out of view, locking our homes and vehicles help remove those opportunities from these criminals. Please help us apprehend these individuals: if you see something, or someone, doing something suspicious in your neighborhood, call the police immediately.” stated Captain Patrick Robinson, Sarasota Bureau of Patrol operations commander.

Anyone with information should call Sarasota police at 941-954-7070.
