UNIVERSITY PARK -- Panera Bread will open another restaurant off of University Parkway next year.
The soup and sandwich bakery chain will open on North Cattleman Road in the summer of 2014, said Amanda Saxon, spokeswoman for Panera.
About 40 to 50 people, including bakers and managers, will be hired for the Sarasota County location, she said.
Panera already has a location off University Parkway on Tuttle Avenue in southern Manatee County, and its other Manatee County restaurant is on the corner of Cortez Road and 14th Street West.
The chain was founded in 1981 in St. Louis and today has more than 1,600 restaurants in 44 states.
The Panera will be located in Benderson Development's District at University Town Center on a pad site near Super Target and Best Buy. Benderson is continuing to build on open land along Cattleman, including a Fidelity Investments and Florida Blue center.
The restaurant will be across from the Benderson joint venture Mall at University Town Center, which will be leased by Taubman Centers. The mall is scheduled to open October 2014 and features Macy's, Dillard's and Saks Fifth Avenue and another anchor to be named later.
