A poem from grateful mother of a soldier on freedom holiday

July 4, 2013

This poem was written for my son, Shawn Christian Holtz, who is a platoon sergeant in the Minnesota National Guard.

However, it is a tribute to all our sons and daughters who are serving in the United States military this July 4.

Happy Fourth, everyone!

"My Son"

Today is the 4th of July

Because of my son

Millions will have fun

And our flag will fly high

We will have cook outs

Because of my son

We need not look out

His work has just begun

Our country is free

Because of my son

And the work he has done

for you and for me

I would like to sing

Because of my son

When the day is done

My Country Tis of Thee

I am a very proud mom

Because of my son

What will I do?

Raise the red white and blue
