Heavy rains flood U.S. 41 and Beach Pass

July 3, 2013

There are several reports of road flooding and closures by the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office due to standing water following the heavy rain.

At this time, they are: - Beach Road and Midnight Pass on Siesta Key. - U.S. 41 near Southgate Mall. in Sarasota.

There are no reports of flooded roads in Bradenton or Manatee Couny, according to the Florida Highway Patrol, Manatee County Sheriff's Office and the Bradenton Police Department. Motorists should avoid these areas altogether, as well as roads commonly known to flood. Flooded roads could have significant damage hidden by the water. Water only 2 feet deep can float away most automobiles.

Be particularly cautious at night when it is harder to recognize flood dangers.
