BRADENTON -- Wanted: Disabled veterans to enjoy a free fishing trip for a day on behalf of some grateful citizens.

Bradenton Elks Lodge 1511, 2511 75th St. W., is sponsoring an inshore fishing trip scheduled July 24 on a Wednesday.

Organizer Michael Dinius said six boats are going with 14 spots for disabled veterans. Each boat can accommodate a wheelchair veteran, too.

"This is the first time we've done this and we'd like to make it an annual event," Dinius said. "Whether they fought in Iraq or they're a World War II veteran, as long as they're able to get

there and like to go fishing, we'll take them."

The departure site has not been determined yet, but the boats will leave the dock early that morning and return early afternoon.

Drinks will be provided during the trip via a beverage boat and food will be provided following the return to shore.

There is no cost and all fishing equipment is provided.

The trip is being paid for by a Gratitude Grant from the Elks National Foundation.

"The only thing they will need to bring is themselves -- and some good sunscreen!" Dinius said. "Our goal is to offer an experience to a wounded or disabled veteran that would otherwise not have the opportunity to spend a day fishing."

If you are a wounded or disabled veteran and would like to go fishing, e-mail Michael Dinius at mike@dinius.org. Or call him at 941-737-6566 and leave a message with contact information.
