Manatee Sheriff's Office honors employee for recovering stolen property

HERALD STAFF REPORTJuly 2, 2013

MANATEE--The Manatee County Sheriff's Office has honored Diana Colman as its employee of the month for her efforts in recovering a stolen property despite an error in the computerized reporting system.

Colman was conducting a follow-up on a bicycle theft from Central High School on April 11.

The victim's mother provided a detailed description of the bicycle that was her son's only means of transportation to and from work and school. She also informed Colman that the bicycle was at a pawn shop.

Colman checked the reporting system but didn't find any results so she decided to just go over to the pawn shop.

Based on the description, a bike that matched was located by the shop owner and a hold was placed on it. It was later released to the owner.

A problem with the reporting system at the pawn shop was determined to be the reason the bicycle had not registered.
