Manatee sheriff honors deputy for saving stabbing victim's life on day off

HERALD STAFF REPORTJuly 2, 2013

MANATEE -- Manatee County Sheriff's Office deputy Adesh Ragoonanan has been named Deputy of the Month for his efforts in saving a stabbing victim while off duty.

Ragoonanan was home on May 19 when his wife alerted him to a suspicious person outside, near his MSO vehicle.

The deputy went outside and located two people, one of whom was bleeding from a stab wound to the chest.

Ragoonanan performed first aid on the victim while obtaining key pieces of information.

The suspect then appeared and Ragoonanan directed another person how to apply pressure to the wound while he relayed information to deputies en route.

Ragoonanan then confronted the suspect who fled on foot. Rather than pursuing the suspect he remained with the victim.

Deputy Ragoonanan is credited with the victim surviving his wounds, and the development of a suspect in the case.
