Manatee sheriff: Drunk driver crashes into patrol vehicle in Bradenton

MANATEE -- A 43-year-old man was arrested after he drove drunk and crashed head-on with a parked Manatee County Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle, according to the sheriff's office.

About 9:18 p.m. Monday, a deputy was parked in the 1100 block of 61st Avenue East, where he had responded to a call, when Israel Lara-Contreras crossed the center line of the street and crashed head-on into the deputy's car, according to a news release.

Lara-Contreras was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated with damage to property. A bond amount was not listed on the Manatee County jail website.

The patrol vehicle suffered about $3,000 in damage, and Lara-Contreras' vehicle suffered about $2,000 in damage, according to the sheriff's office. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.

There were no reports of injuries.
