Pregnant Manatee paramedic assaulted while giving aid

MANATEE -- A 24-year-old pregnant Manatee County emergency medical technician was assaulted while trying to render aid to a patient.

The pregnant EMS worker, who is 5-foot-9, had responded to Mulligans, 5526 15th St. E., at 11:56 p.m. Saturday to treat a female patient in the parking lot of the establishment, according to a Manatee County Sheriff's Office report.

The patient's brother, who is listed at 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, came into the parking lot, clenched his hands in fists and began to make threatened remarks to the EMT, the report states.

The suspect was later identified as Gene Folds, Dave Bristow, a sheriff's office spokesman, said Monday.

Folds also reportedly said he was going to "Knock out" the EMT.

At that point, the sheriff's office was summoned.

Folds was charged with assault on a medical care provider and arrested Sunday. He was in the Manatee County jail Monday on a $5,000 bond, according to the sheriff's office website.
