An arrest has been made in the 7-11 armed robbery that happened at approximately 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Officer Tammy Featherstone observed the suspect wearing the same shirt and shoes seen in the photos.

The suspect reportedly tried to conceal himself by entering the Salvation Army at 1400 10th St.

Featherstone called for backup and went after the suspect. When she approached the suspect, she asked him to place his hands behind his back. The suspect reportedly picked up a chair from the dining room and threw it at Officer Featherstone.

A foot pursuitensued outside and east on 10th Street to Lemon Avenue where the suspect was apprehended with assistance from Officer Chris O'Donnell.

The suspect was reportedly found in possession of a vial with seven pieces of crack cocaine.

John Coates, 19, of Pensacola, has been charged with two counts of armed robbery, resisting arrest, possession of crack cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Coates allegedly confessed to the armed robberies of the 7-11 and the Smoke Shop.
