ARREST UPDATE: One minute separates 2 early Sunday crimes

June 30, 2013 

— MANATEE — Officers with the Sarasota Police Department responded to two crime calls within a minute of each other early Sunday.

At 2:33 a.m., an armed robbery occurred at the 7-11 at 511 North Washington Blvd., according to a police report.

Then, at approximately 2:34 a.m., a shooting reportedly occurred at 501 North Lockwood Ridge Road.

In the first unsolved incident, the clerk told officers a male in his 20s, last seen wearing a red shirt, red, black and white basketball shorts and with short black hair, entered the store carrying a brick.

The man allegedly walked behind the counter, physically assaulted the clerk and removed an unknown amount of cash from the register, along with several items from the store.

In the second unsolved incident, witnesses told officers the victim was arguing with a second party. Police report those involved in the shooting are not cooperative. The victim sustained gunshot injuries and was taken by Bayflight medical helicopter to Blake Medical Center.
