Manatee man charged with stealing cell phones

June 29, 2013

— A man was arrested Saturday afternoon, charged with stealing cell phones from a Manatee County Wal-Mart.

According to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, loss prevention staff at the Wal-Mart at 6225 State Road 64 East, observed Carl Jackson with a juvenile, picking up two cell phones and meeting an adult female and a second juvenile in another part of the store.

Store personnel saw the female conceal the phones in her purse, according to a news release.

The adults then split up, with Jackson carrying the purse with the cell phones inside. Jackson left the store without paying for phones and was seen putting the property into a beige Suzuki SUV in the parking lot.

Jackson and one of the juveniles then re-entered the store with the female's empty purse, deputies said.

Deputies arrived, arresting Jackson and impounding the vehicle. The female accomplice and one juvenile escaped. The juvenile with Jackson was released to his father, the news release said.

Jackson was charged with retail theft and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
