Manatee couple assaulted by armed suspects

— A Bradenton couple were assaulted early Saturday morning, according to the Manatee Sheriff’s Office.

The couple drove to a residence described by the victims as a “drug house” located on the 5700 block of the 11th Street East in Bradenton at 3 a.m. to pick up the girlfriend’s sister.

The boyfriend waited in the car, while she walked up to the house and was let in. Inside she met with her sister and two men known as “J.R.” and “Slim.” The girlfriend got into an argument with the two men over money and she was pushed out of the house. As she turned around she saw teh suspect named J.R. waiving a small handgun, causing her to fear for her life.

The boyfriend got out of the car and ran to his girlfriend’s aide. The suspect identified as Slim came outside with a baseball and swung at him several times, breaking his arm and cutting his head.

The boyfriend fled on foot on 11th Street East and the girlfriend got into the car. As she was fleeing a suspect threw an unknown object at the passenger window, breaking it.

She fled southbound and picked up her boyfriend. She called 911 en route to a local hospital. Deputies met the couple at the hospital.

The boyfriend was admitted to the hospital where he received stitches above his eye and required surgery to repair his broken arm.
