Why Manatee voters axed half percent sales tax hike

June 29, 2013

With the defeat of the half percent sales tax, some county leaders and the Healthy Manatee political action committee have been crying foul play, saying they weren't able to get out their message. Healthy Manatee and Mr. Ed Hunzeker were out promoting the issue and much was written in the media so don't tell the public you couldn't get your message out.

Since they didn't have a comprehensive plan to offer the public, they went to their progressive handbook 101, saying give me the money first and we will reward you later.

We got fooled once by the half percent sales tax with the Manatee school district and look where it got us!

Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. Could it be the public has learned their lesson?

It seems Ms. Pat Glass is blaming others for her lack of direction in not providing a good coherent clear vision. Ms. Glass in an interview said other groups muddied the sales tax message but you have wondered which organization actually was dishonest in their approach. What a waste of time, energy and money.

With the Manatee health care only needing $9 million for indigent care, where was the remaining $14 million going? We never heard from Mr. Hunzeker how he planned to use the extra $14 million!

Good work, Manatee citizens, in stopping a debacle.
