Francisco Liriano pitched six strong innings to help the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 2-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers in the second of three from PNC Park.
Liriano (7-3) won for a fourth time in his past five starts as he gave up just one run on seven hits with a walk and six strikeouts for the Pirates, who are on an eight-game winning streak.
It's the longest winning streak for the Pirates since the team ran off 10 straight from June 26-July 5, 2004 and the team with the best record in the majors is now 20 games over .500 on the season.
Garrett Jones and Pedro Alvarez each hit a solo home run as the Pirates improved to 8-4 over the Brewers this season.
Yuniesky Betancourt drove in the only run of the game for the Brewers, who have dropped their past four games. Donovan Hand (0-1) suffered the first loss of his career as he gave up two runs on five hits with two strikeouts in five innings.
