Woman's body found at downtown Sarasota bus station

June 28, 2013

A woman's body was found Friday morning at the downtown SCAT Bus Transfer Station in Sarasota, the Sarasota Police Department reported.

At about 4 a.m., officers were waved down by a group of people concerned about a woman who wasn't moving at the transfer station. Officers soon determined that the woman, believed to be homeless, had died.

Officers believe she was staying at the station to avoid the storms that passed through the area, according to the report.

The Sarasota Police Department is investigating, but officers found no initial evidence of foul play. Her body is being sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death. Officers are also examining video from the transfer station, the report stated.

Anyone with information should call the Sarasota Police Department Bureau of Criminal Investigations at 941-954-7070 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers by calling 941-366-TIPS (8477).
