There have been some odd concert lineups in recent months. The Ke$ha/Pitbull summer tour keeps the trend going.
Ke$ha's the intentionally trashy top-40 electro-dance star whose show and image seem to be all about adolescent sex, with weird face paint and skimpy costumes. Pitbull's a smooth and sophisticated pop rapper with a sly snarl who's always dressed impeccably.
They're on the same record label, which is apparently why they're touring together, and it's probably at least in part because they pretty much draw from different demographic groups that the tour's been so successful.
They're also on the radio just about every time you turn it on.
The reviews of the tour thus far have thus generally very favorable to Pitbull and not so much to Ke$ha. But then again, the kind of people who review concerts for a living are far from the target audience for Ke$ha.
Pitbull's known for collaborating with some big-timers, and obviously they're not all joining him on tour, except on huge video screens: Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera, Shakira, Enrqiue Iglesias, et al. It's by all accounts huge, high-energy show that features lasers, dancers and Pitbull's combination of African-Caribbean rhythms and hip-hop.
And even people who don't get the appeal of Ke$ha's persona have to allow that she can come up with some catchy melodies every now and then and some awfully infectious dance beats.
