City of Bradenton contracts with cheap-labor employers

June 25, 2013

The City of Bradenton is awarding the maintenance of part of the parks and recreation department to an independent contractor.

These contractors employ cheap labor: they do not provide a health care package, and even if they do the employees will be so poorly paid they cannot afford it.

If the workers or their families get sick, they have to use our public health system at our expense.

I would also like to point out that many of these people have to use food stamps as well. The workers are not at fault.

Let's say this is a pie that consist of 10 pieces; the owner gets eight pieces and the 10 workers split two pieces. That is why the public health service is so overburdened and the food stamp program is so expensive.

I'm surprised the City of Bradenton supports this abuse of human rights.
