Watching Wallenda

Tonight: Watching Wallenda

You can watch Nik Wallenda's next much-hyped stunt -- a walk across the Grand Canyon -- tonight, almost live, on television.

The event will be broadcast on The Discovery Channel live, with a 10-second delay. Coverage starts at 7:40 p.m. with the walk scheduled to start at 8 p.m. It will take place on the Navajo reservation near Cameron, outside the boundaries of Grand Canyon National Park.

Wallenda will attempt to walk on a tightrope stretched across the Little Colorado River Gorge, a third of a mile across a wire suspended 1,500 feet above the river. That's about 1,300 feet higher than last year's wire walk across Niagara Falls.

No safety tether. No net.

He anticipates it will take him about 30 minutes to cross the chasm. --Staff and wire reports
