3-year-old dies in Palmetto after being left in car

Deputies say mix-up led to girl's death

PALMETTO -- A 3-year-old boy died Saturday after being left in a car for three hours in an apparent mix-up while his parents attended a funeral, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office reported.

Deputies responded to a 911 call at about 4:20 p.m. to a report of an unresponsive child at a home in the 2700 block of Fifth Avenue East, according to a news release.

Detectives responded and determined that the child, Kyrese Dwayne Anderson, was left in a vehicle for about three hours while his parents, from Lehigh Acres, attended a funeral. The mother and father drove separate cars to a babysitter's house to drop off their children before they went to the funeral, the news release said.

Deputies say it appeared the boy was accidentally left in the car while two other children, ages 4 and 5, went in the babysitter's home. The parents left for the funeral thinking all the children were in the house.

When the parents returned from the funeral hours later, they discovered the boy in the vehicle and called 911, deputies said.

Paramedics responding to the 911 call pronounced the child dead at the scene.

An autopsy will be performed Monday to determine the cause of death. The investigation continues and, according to sheriff's department spokesman Dave Bristow, there are no plans at this time to file charges.
