Manatee teen charged with burglary

HERALD STAFF REPORTJune 22, 2013

— A 16-year-old boy was arrested Friday night and charged with burglary, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said.

The juvenile suspect was seen by a neighbor at about 8:30 p.m. leaving a house in the 1200 block of Cara Cara Loop in GreyHawk Landing. The neighbor was watching the house for the owner who was out of state, according to a news release.

The suspect was apprehended soon afterward. With his parents present, the suspect said he obtained the code for the garage from the victim’s son and entered the garage at 4 p.m. Thursday, deputies said.

He then unlawfully entered the residence without the victim’s permission and slept in the master bedroom. While he was in the house he had friends join him and consumed some of the victim’s food without their permission.

Deputies say the boy also admitted to smoking marijuana. The suspect was arrested and taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital due to the marijuana. When the suspect is released, he will be transported to juvenile detention, the news release said.
