A well-earned honor for State College of Florida

June 22, 2013

State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota received another feather in its cap this week. SCF earned a spot on the Manufacturing Institute's "M-list," which cites schools for excellence in manufacturing education.

The organization's mission is to improve and expand manufacturing across the country. The M-List recognizes high schools, community colleges, technical schools and universities that teach manufacturing students to industry standards.

Manatee County's premier workforce training school joins 10 other Florida College System institutions as charter members on the list -- which only cites a total of 42 schools nationwide.

SCF offers certification programs that provide students with opportunities to earn job promotions and progress into for-credit academic pathways. The National Association of Manufacturers endorses the certification programs.

An Engineering Technology and Advanced Manufacturing grant from the U.S. Department of Labor allows SCF to collaborate with workforce agencies and other colleges to provide manufacturing education and training.

Kudos to SCF for this strong support to the region's manufacturers and to students and workers in this key sector.
