MANATEE -- There continues to be slow but steady progress in Florida's jobs market, as May's overall unemployment dropped 0.1 percentage point from April.

May's 7.1 percent unemployment rate is 1.7 percentage points lower than the May 2012 rate of 8.8. percent.

In Manatee County, where unemployment was at 6.8 percent, the numbers were not as good. Unemployment was up from last month's rate of 6.3 percent but still better than May 2012 when unemployment stood at 8.4 percent.
