Rays' David Price to make rehab start Friday at McKechnie Field

HERALD STAFF REPORTJune 19, 2013

Tampa Bay Rays starter David Price, the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner, will make a minor-league rehab start on Friday at McKechnie Field when the Charlotte Stone Crabs visit the Bradenton Marauders.

According to the team's website, Price threw a bullpen session Tuesday and felt comfortable enough to schedule his first rehab start.

Rays manager Joe Maddon says it will be a short outing as Price sees his first game action since May 15. He has been out with a left triceps strain.

The Rays have yet to map out a plan for Price, but Maddon said it's reasonable to expect Price will return within a few weeks.

"I think there's definitely a possibility he could be back before the All-Star break," Maddon said. "The soreness set us back a little bit, but it seems to be back on task right now."

The game will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
