MANATEE -- A Bradenton man was beaten and robbed of his wallet during a home invasion at his apartment Tuesday evening, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 8:45 p.m., the 58-year-old victim was in his apartment at Lofton Meadows, 6050 34th St. W., when a female friend arrived.

"The female asked him if he had any Dilaudid pills. He told her that he did not have any," a news release states.

The woman became upset and told the victim she was going outside to make a phone call.

Shortly afterwards, a man broke into the apartment and began to strike the resident about the face with his fists, according to the report.

The victim and the assailant fought in the living room.

"The suspect was able to bend the victim over the couch and reached into his right pocket and removed his wallet," the report states.

The suspect then fled the apartment.

"It is unknown at this point if the female and the suspect were together or knew each other. The victim did not know the suspect and did not see him with the female but the female did not return after she left," the report states.

Paramedics treated the man on scene for a bloody nose and bruises to the face.
