Jupiter Hammerheads pound way past Bradenton Marauders 11-5

June 19, 2013

The Hammerheads (35-32) used a seven-run third inning to blow open a 2-2 tie, rolling 11-5 past the Bradenton Marauders (26-41) on Tuesday night at Roger Dean Stadium. Every Jupiter starter scored at least one run in the win. Zack Dodson (L, 1-5) was staked to a 2-0 lead in the first, but Jupiter bounced back to tie the score in the same inning. Brent Keys bunted for a hit with one out. Austin Barnes was hit by a pitch. Alex Burg’s soft single over the first base bag brought home one run and a wild pitch scored Barnes to tie the game. Jupiter’s third inning started with a pair of quick outs. With the bases empty and two outs, Matt Smith singled to start the rally. Burg was hit by a pitch and an error by Alen Hanson allowed Ryan Rieger to reach, loading the bases. Consecutive run-scoring hits and a bases loaded walk chased Dodson with the score 7-2. Jupiter added two more runs in the inning and two more in the fourth against Zac Fuesser. Eric Avila went 3-for-4 in defeat, crushing two solo home runs and scoring three runs for Bradenton. Avila’s two home runs was the first multi-homer game for a Marauder since Alex Dickeron’s two-homer day on July 26, 2012. Hanson went 4-for-5 with two doubles and a run scored, Dan Gamache hit his 19th double of the year, and Junior Sosa added two RBI for other Marauders highlights. Henderson Alvarez (W, 2-0) earned the win on the mound in a rehab start for Jupiter.
