Sarasota police arrest suspect in Bradenton car theft

June 17, 2013

SARASOTA -- A Bradenton man has been charged with grand theft auto after officers say he was caught driving a stolen car in Sarasota, according to the Sarasota Police Department.

About 10:50 p.m. Friday, officers spotted a grey Nissan Cube matching the description of a vehicle stolen in Manatee County. They ran the tag, and it came back to a white Nissan 4-door car, according to a news release.

The driver, later identified as Marvin Burke, pulled the car to the side of the road in the 1700 block of 23rd Street and got out of the car.

Burke told officers it was not his car but he knew the owner.

Officers ran the VIN number on the car and it came back positive as a stolen car.

Burke was arrested and charged with grand theft. He was released from jail after posting $1,500 bond.
