June 16, 2013

— A 23-year-old Palmetto man has died from injuries sustained in a recent motor-scooter accident.

Aaron Hill, 23, died at 11:10 a.m. Thursday at Blake Medical Center, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

Hill was driving a 2008 motor scooter east on Cortez Road in the left through lane at 9:40 p.m . Wednesday. A 2008 Nissan Versa driven by a 29-year-old Bradenton man was also going east on Cortez Road in the left turn lane, according to the FHP report.

The Nissan driver told authorities Hill was steering from side to side in his lane and suddenly veered into the turn lane occupied by the Nissan. The FHP reported Hill’s erratic driving was alcohol-related.

The left side of the scooter struck the right side of the Nissan causing the scooter to overturn on its left side. The impact ejected Hill 77 feet past his scooter onto the roadway, according to FHP.

Hill was not wearing a helmet.
