Driver leaves accident with injuries in Manatee


MANATEE -- Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who injured a passenger in another car Friday afternoon.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a grey car driven by a man described as in his 60s was northbound on Fifth Street East, stopped at the stop sign at in the intersection of 30th Avenue East at about 3:08 p.m. Another vehicle was westbound on 30th Avenue East, approaching Fifth Street East.

The second vehicle, a Chevrolet Venture, began to turn left onto Fifth Street East. At the same time, the gray vehicle tried to turn left onto 30th Avenue East. The gray vehicle hit the left rear of the Chevrolet, injuring a 13-year-old passenger in the Chevrolet, the Highway Patrol said.

The driver of the gray vehicle left the scene before troopers arrived, last seen heading east on 30th Avenue East.

Anyone who may have witnessed this crash or has any knowledge as to the identity of the hit-and-run driver is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol at 239-938-1800.
