Manatee man offering reward for stolen statue

HERALD STAFF REPORTJune 14, 2013

MANATEE -- A Manatee man is offering a $500 reward for statue stolen from the front yard of his home Sunday.

Dr. Paul Gorey, 85, had his Garden of Rebecca statue stolen sometime between 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday from the front of his home at 7905 Manatee Ave. W.

Gorey last saw the statue, valued at about $350, at 7 a.m. when he came outside.

A neighbor witnessed someone pull up in a small, dark SUV with grey interior. He thought the person was there doing work in the yard.

Deputies say that the suspect entered the yard through an unsecured gate. The statue, glued to a platform, is about four feet tall, white and holding a vase on her right shoulder.

The suspect is said to be a heavy set male with dark hair.

The statue has sentimental value to Gorey, who erected it in memory of his sister.

Anyone with any information contact Gorey at 941-795-6335.
