Sheriff: Bradenton man stabbed during burglary at his home

June 12, 2013

MANATEE -- A 60-year-old man was stabbed when he interrupted two burglars in the garage of his Bradenton home, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, the man went to smoke a cigarette outside his residence in the 7100 block of 28th Avenue West, when he noticed that his garage door was open and that some of the items from the garage were on the walkway, according to a news release. He also saw two burglars.

The man "grabbed one of the suspects and a struggle ensued," the report states.

He managed to get the burglar to the ground, but then the other thief jumped on top of him and stabbed him three times in the back, the sheriff's office said.

The burglars then fled the scene.

The suspects were described as both being about 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighing 130 pounds. One was wearing a gray hoodie, and the other a white T-shirt, the sheriff's office said.
