1 killed, 3 hospitalized after DeSoto-University intersect crash

June 2, 2013

One person is dead and three others are injured following a deadly crash near the intersection of DeSoto Road and University Parkway near the dog track.

The crash happened at approximately 6:50 p.m. Sunday, June 2, according to police reports.

Officers believe a dark four-door car was traveling west on University Parkway toward DeSoto Road. Just after crossing the railroad tracks, the single driver lost control, crossed the median, hit a tree, and then hit a SUV with three people inside.

The driver of the four-door car was killed. On Monday, Sarasota police identified him as Andrew Davis Truex, 34, of Sarasota.

The three people inside the SUV were injured.

One passenger in the SUV was taken as a trauma alert to a local hospital. Two others were also transported to local hospitals.

DeSoto Road and the University Parkway intersection is expected to be shut down for several hours.

University Parkway is closed at 15th Street East for westbound traffic and at Old Bradenton Road for eastbound traffic.

DeSoto Road is closed eastbound near the intersection. Drivers are asked to find alternate routes.
