Brad Zunica at a glance

June 2, 2013

Brad Zunica, Jr., 1B-P, Lakewood Ranch

To his credit: The Herald All-Area Player of the Year came up big for the Mustangs, mashing eight home runs and batting .468. Zunica drove in 29 runs, scored 28 runs and cracked eight doubles. A pitcher when he wasn't playing first base, Zunica posted a 4-4 record, 47 strikeouts and a 2.60 ERA and threw all eight innings to help the Mustangs beat Palmetto in the quarterfinals of the Class 6A-District 12 tournament.

Fast fact: Zunica didn't get an official at-bat during that postseason game against Tigers, who intentionally walked him four times.

Up next: Zunica recently underwent surgery to repair a ligament in his left thumb, but hopes to recover in time to join his summer travel team, FTB Chandler. He has already verbally committed to Miami and plans to skip his senior season to enroll early at UM.
