GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

Kristin Zarrella, sr., Lakewood Ranch

To her credit: Zarrella had 12 first-place finishes in 2013, capped off by winning the Class 3A state 800-meter run championship. She was the Manatee County champ in the 400, 800 and 1,600 runs and was district and region champ in the 800. Her personal high school records are 800 run (2 minutes, 14.06 seconds), 400 dash (59.42), 1,600 run (5:02.95), 3200 run (11:29), 3.1 miles (18:27).

Fast fact: Zarrella started out her high school career specializing in the 3,200 and 1,600 meter runs, but wanted something shorter and in her junior year switched to the 800, which she says she enjoys more because it takes less time.

Up next: Zarrella is headed to Southern Mississippi on an athletic scholarship. She hopes to run cross country and compete in 800 run.
