Gallery for May 28, 2013: 'I Believe I Can Fly' time of year

With a face full of enthusiasm, outstretched paws and eyes trained on the path ahead, a sheepdog bounds through the air like an excitable flying fur ball last weekend at the AKC agility trials at the county fairgrounds in Palmetto. If this were a movie, it's the kind of slow-motion scene that begs for a soundtrack. Several things come to mind, foremost among them, perhaps, is the theme from "Superman." But with so many graduations scheduled for the end of this week, R. Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly," might be a little more appropriate. It's a commencement ceremony staple, and has been played countless times as a tear-inducing reminder to hopeful graduates that a little faith and determination can go a long way toward helping them overcome whatever obstacles might await in the next greatest chapter of their lives. Here's to our aspiring graduates across Manatee County. Remember to keep your eyes trained on the prize, move forward with a little hope in your hearts, and let faith be your guide when fact cannot throughout all of life's twists and turns.
