Six-term First Ward Councilman Gene Gallo of Bradenton has had a successful hip surgery after being involved in a riding lawnmower accident while on a trip to Georgia.

The surgery Sunday was to mend a broken femur, according to his daughter, Darenda Marvin.

“Dad is actually doing really well,” Marvin said Monday. “He’ll need to recuperate the next two weeks in Georgia before he can come home.”

Gallo, a 50-year Bradenton resident, is serving a sixth four-year term as city councilman of Ward 1.
