Manatee man charged with assaulting deputy

— A Bradenton man is in custody, charged with assault and battery on a Manatee County Sheriff's deputy.

According to a news release, a deputy responded to a call to the home of Christopher Mark Gendreau, 37, in the 5700 block of 27th Street West sometime Friday. During the call, Gendreau was found to be extremely intoxicated and charged at the deputy, attempting to attack him.

In the struggle during the arrest, the sheriff's' office says Gendreau spit on the deputy and injured him slightly. The deputy's patrol car was also damaged, the news release said.

Gendreau was charged with disorderly conduct, one count of assault on a law enforcement officer and three county of battery on a law enforcement officer.
