Commentary | Bevy of Bradenton Gladiators named Florida Football Alliance all-stars

Even though it wasn't a glorious run to a Florida Football Alliance championship, the Bradenton Gladiators are still being recognized this weekend as All-Star selections for the NFC.

The game is 6 p.m. Sunday, one day after Alliance Bowl VI is played between the Orlando Rage and Magic City Bulls.

Here are the Gladiators who made the NFC All-Star team: Jeff Charlton (cornerback); Bonshavior Bean (wide receiver); Darian Platt (linebacker); Phillip Chaltis (kicker/punter); Craig Carnes (running back); Jason Greenwood (offensive lineman); Gerald Perry (defensive end); Nicholas Kirby (quarterback); Chris Hall (linebacker); Donte Brown (linebacker); Chauncey Jones (running back); and Keon Hines (defensive back).

New Pop Warner outfit

The Sarasota Lightning are a new local Pop Warner organization that is scheduled to play games at Out-of-Door Academy beginning this season. The Lightning used to be the Sarasota Buccaneers,but have transitioned to Pop Warner's Peace River Conference for the upcoming season that starts in August.

Registration begins May 29 from 6-8:30 p.m.at RTI Insurance, 6371 Business Blvd., in Lakewood Ranch.
