Police return 'lost boys' safely home

Herald staff reportMay 20, 2013

— MANATEE -- The Manatee County Sheriff's Office safely returned a 9-year-old and 11-year-old boy to their frightened parents about 7:52 p.m. Monday.

The boys are neighbors who generally play in front of their homes in the 500 block of 61st Avenue Terrace East together but they reportedly left their neighborhood on bicycles without notifying family members.

After two hours without hearing from the boys, the families notified MSO. Several deputies and detectives from MCSO searched for about 50 minutes before locating the boys several blocks away.

The boys had traveled to visit a friend from school. The children were safely returned to their families.
