Piece of 'getaway' vehicle evidence in Ellenton theft

HERALD STAFF REPORTMay 20, 2013

MANATEE -- Authorities don't have anyone in custody after a $700 shoplifting case at the Ellenton Outlet Mall Saturday, but they do have a piece of the getaway vehicle.

The suspects are believed to have fled from Aeropostale in a Dodge or Chrysler mini-van that lost its side door when the suspects made a quick getaway, according to a Manatee County Sheriff's Office report.

The van door is now evidence in the case, the report added.

A manager at the store told deputies that three male suspects entered the store shortly after 1 p.m. and selected approximately $700 worth of clothing.

The manager then saw the three run from the store, carrying the merchandise in a bag, the report states.

The manager got punched in the face by one of the subjects during the getaway, the report adds.
