May 16, 2013

The Ringling Museum is offering free admission all day on Saturday. RINGLING MUSEUM OF ART

International Museum Day is Saturday.

In celebration, the Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota is offering free admission all day. Adult admission is usually $25, so it's a significant offer.

The museum will be open normal hours from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The Ringling Museum of Art features one of the country's best Baroque art collections, including large-scale paintings by Peter Paul Rubens in the Rubens Galleries. It also houses a growing contemporary art collection.

The museum encompasses 21 galleries plus the permanent installation called "Joseph's Coat," a Skyspace created by internationally renowned artist James Turrell. Joseph's Coat is a continually changing natural-light experience.

The International Museum Day theme this year is "Museums (memory + creativity) = social change." Someone at the Ringling Museum of Art can explain to you exactly what that means.

Details: The Ringling Museum of Art, 5401 Bayshore Road, Sarasota, is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily, and 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursdays. Admission is $25 for adults, $5 for ages 6-17 and $20 for seniors (65 and older). After 5 p.m. Thursdays adults get in for $10. Information: 941-359-5700 or www.ringling.org.
