Faces in business: Rick Fawley

May 15, 2013

Title: President

Company: Fawley Bryant - Architecture, Interiors, Design

What was the best business advice you ever received?

After having issues and getting frustrated with the cost of a specific design on which I kept working, a friend told me that I was a smart guy and I would figure it out. In short, "Don't sweat the small stuff... it's all small stuff."

If you could choose another profession, what would it be?

Anything to do with a creative process. I wanted to pursue a career in fine art my father wanted me to be an engineer. Mom pulled a fast one and brokered the deal for me to pursue architecture by telling my father that architecture was really engineering and telling me that architecture was really fine art.

What's the biggest risk you have taken in your career?

The scariest one was when the downturn in the economy happened and we had to use our credit line to keep staff... and that credit line was tied to the mortgage on my house.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you start?

A photo safari in Africa. I have done it before, in Botswana, but I would go back in a heartbeat.
