Coating over Fosters Drug history in Bradenton

ttompkins@bradenton.comMay 14, 2013

Traffic is reflected in one of the glass windows of the former Fosters Drug and Surgical Supplies Store at 540 13th St. W in downtown Bradenton as Manuel Gutierrez of Hampton Painting coats bright yellow paint on the exterior of the iconic building. Fosters, which closed for good March 31, 2012, started in the now-demolished Dixie Grande Hotel, which used to be across Manatee Avenue. The Flowers family, who owned and ran the business for decades, found it too difficult to compete as an independent pharmacy against the big chains. A sign in the window offers the building for rent.
