Trio of heroic Manatee cops honored Monday

— Three Manatee County police officers from three separate departments will be honored at the Congressional Law Enforcement Award Ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Monday at County Commission Chambers at the Sarasota County Admin Building, 1660 Ringling Blvd.

The honorees and their achievements are:

- Officer Andres Perez of the Bradenton Police Department will be presented the Congressional Preservation of Life Award. Perez was dispatched to a call July 26, 2012, regarding a 15-year-old attempting to commit suicide. Perez forced entry into a bedroom and and found the teen hanging from the closet rod. Perez cut the teen down and the victim began to breathe again. Perez also administered first aid to cuts on the juvenile’s wrists.

- Deputy Justin Warren of the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office is presented the Congressional Award for Actions Above and Beyond the Call of Duty. Warren responded to a suicide attempt Feb. 16, 2012, where a man had barricaded himself inside his home and opened all the jets on the gas stove. After a long dialogue the man surrendered. Warren put himself in harm’s way to save another and bring this incident to a calm and rational conclusion with no one injured.

- Officer Joshua Fleischer/Holmes Beach Police Department is presented the Congressional Preservation of Life Award. Fleischer responded to a medical call Nov. 8, 2012, related to an overdose. Fleisher found a young adult male unconscious and turning blue. His life-saving action helped the victim breathe on his own.
