Bridge Street to host night market

BRADENTON BEACH -- The Bridge Street Merchants will host their weekly Night Markets beginning at 5 p.m. June 1.

The Bridge Street Night Market is going to be held every Saturday evening in June and July on Historic Bridge Street in Bradenton Beach. The market showcases area restaurants, gourmet desserts, live music, handmade arts and craft vendors, jewelry, clothes, home décor and food.

This will be the second year the night markets have taken place. It is a great resource for local art, live music, and unique gifts. Market organizers are now accepting applications from local vendors.

Interested vendors should contact Melissa Enders at melissaenders76@gmail.com. Interested vendors can also download the application at: www.bridgestreetmerchants.com/marketapp.

Bridge Street is in Bradenton Beach on the south end of Anna Maria Island and offers dining, shopping, the historic pier, boutiques, live music, miniature golf and resort style accommodations. Bridge Street is also on the free trolley route making it convenient for visitors to park and ride.

The open air market is hosted by the Bridge Street Merchants Association, a non for profit group formed in 2006 comprised of merchants dedicated to promoting historic Bridge Street, the Bradenton Beach community and its businesses. For more information visit www.bridgestreetmerchants.com.

Retailer partners with Veterans Affairs

Dollar General is partnering with the Florida Department of Veterans Affairs, the Florida National Guard, the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity and private employers throughout the state to connect Florida's veterans and their families with immediate career opportunities through the Paychecks for Patriots initiative. Held at ten locations throughout Florida on Friday, May 10, Paychecks for Patriots will match veterans and their families with employers who value skills, knowledge and attributes attained during military experience.

To commemorate collaboration between the private and public sectors and demonstrate support for veterans transitioning to civilian life through meaningful employment, Governor Rick Scott declared Friday as Paychecks for Patriots Day in Florida.

More than 115 distinct Florida employers -- including Dollar General -- will be represented at the hiring fairs.

Paychecks for Patriots Hiring Fairs will be held at the following locations on Friday May 10: at the National Guard Armory, 2809 South Ferncreek Avenue, Orlando; One Step Closer Center, 4440 Grand Blvd., New Port Richey; and the One Step Closer Center, 5901 U.S. South 27, Sebring.
