Man charged with murder in Bradenton slaying

BRADENTON -- A 26-year-old man twice previously charged with murder in unrelated cases, has been charged with first-degree murder in an April 1 slaying in Bradenton, according to the Bradenton Police Department.

Detectives with the Manatee Homicide Investigative Unit early Tuesday arrested Jerry Green, 26, after obtaining a warrant charging him in the fatal shooting of Carlos A. Jurado at the Sheridan Place apartments in the 300 block of 26th Avenue West.

"I truly commend the detectives that are assigned to the Manatee Homicide Investigative Unit for their tireless efforts in solving this senseless murder, and bring relief to the victim's family," police Capt. Warren Merriman said in a news release.

Police say Jurado was shot several time about 6:24 p.m. April 1 outside the apartment complex. He died at the scene.

Green is being held without bond at the Manatee County jail.

Green twice previously has been charged with murder.

On April 30, 2009, he was arrested and charged in the shooting death of Alex Dawson. Dawson, 20, was shot twice just outside the door of his residence on the 1500 block of 10th Street West, Bradenton.

On Jan. 21, 2011, a jury found Green not guilty of the charge.

On April 13, 2007, he was charged with second-degree murder in the death of Christopher Jenkins, 25. The two had allegedly gotten into a fight at Club Nitros in Palmetto on April 8.

Lack of cooperation from a key witness forced prosecutors to drop the charges in this case.
